What is the 4th of July?

It's America’s holiday. It is our Independence Day. The fourth of July recognizes the marking of the Declaration of Independence, which solidified the American colonies’ resolution to fight for their independence from Britain.

On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of Independence, and after two days delegates from the 13 ‘s colonies adopted the declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson.

From 1776 to the present day, July 4th is celebrated as the birth of American Independence with fireworks, parades, concerts, barbecues, and family gatherings.

The 4th of July this year is held on Saturday, July 4, 2020.

4th of July Fireworks and Celebrations

This day is traditionally celebrated with fireworks, barbecues, outdoor cooking, fairs, carnivals, music, and many other public festivals. It often involves red, white, and blue decorations after the US flag as well as tributes to American troops and government institutions. The first fireworks were held in Philadelphia on July 4, 1777. In honor of 13 colonies, Ship’s cannon fired 13 gun salutes.

The 4th of July is never complete without Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. It is held on every 4th of July in Coney Island, New York. The aim of the competition is to eat the height number of hot dogs within 10 minutes.

This contest has gained public attention over the past 10 years.

4th of July and Pets

While everyone is celebrating the 4th of July most of us forget how the noise affects pets and pets owners. Some pets run away as their survival instinct kicks in due to burning smells, noises, and flashes of light and commotion of the holiday.

Our yearly celebration causes elevated anxiety in our pets. Almost six percent of animals are injured from fear-based reactions. It is not just dogs who suffer from fireworks and commotion of the holiday, cats, and other pets are also affected.

The duration of fear-based response is consistent between cats and dogs, although dogs exhibit more outward display or fear of fireworks while cats exhibit cowering behaviors.

Unfortunately, anxiety due to things like fireworks can lead to much more serious issues of pets including death during fireworks displays. Many pets, including dogs, are lost on January 1st and July 4th than any other day of the year. Studies by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals show more dogs run away in July than in any other month.

There are many methods to calm your cats or dogs on Independence day. In fact, many pets owners are turning their attention to CBD products to help calm their pets during fireworks.

6 tips to calm your dog down on the 4th of July

Dogs think they are getting to die on the 4th of July due to fireworks or other activities. But, we can help them, here’s how:

1: Provide Your Dog With a Safe Space

You must create a place where your dog will feel comfortable. Try setting up a place that is away from the window like a larger closet or a basement. This way they can’t see and hear any fireworks. Use a crate where your dog feels safe and make sure to provide your pup toys and treats.

2: Update Your Dog’s Collar & Tags

It is very common to escape your pets on the 4th of July. In fact, 5 th July is the busiest day of the year for animal control as they spend most of the day on phone calls trying to reunite missing pets to their owners.

Microchipping and GPS trackers are best for tracking your pet if they are lost. It is easy to read an ID tag with the owner’s name and cellphone number. The sooner the pet can be located, the better the chance of a safe return. Don’t forget to collect recent photos of your pets and send them to nearby shelters so they can keep an eye out for your pet.

3: Leave the TV or Radio On

Depending on the pitch, a dogs’ sense of hearing is multiple times sharper than us humans. Music mostly blocks out some offending sounds and familiar sounds provide a sense of comfort. Books on tape are worthwhile options as well.

Early in a day try to take your pet on a long walk so that it can aid in reducing anxiety and may prevent your dog from getting overly anxious later in the evening during fireworks. Make sure to adhere to summer safety guidelines on exercising in the heat. It is best to take a nice long walk in the early morning!

How much CBD do dogs need?

Choosing the best dose for your pets can be confusing. First of all, each company dosing guidelines are different due to CBD concentration. The dosage is also different on the condition that you’re trying to treat. For-example high doses are recommended in serious health conditions and lower doses for occasional anxiety or general well-being.

And of course, your dog’s weight and health issues must be taken into consideration. With no standard guidelines or regulated doses, how do you know how much CBD oil to give to your dog? Use our comprehensive dosage guide to know the ideal amount of CBD oil you’re giving to your dog. And, always check packaging carefully to make sure you are giving the recommended amounts.

It can be helpful to know how to calculate optimal CBD dosages. A safe rule of thumb is 1 mg of CBD oil per 10 pounds of animal weight, twice a day. It is a medium dosage starting point.

For example, our Bailey's Full Spectrum Hemp Oil For Dogs w/ 300MG Naturally Occurring CBD comes in 30ml bottles. A full dropper is approximately 1ml and contains about 20 drops. By dividing 300mg into 30 ml we have 10 mg of CBD per full dropper. Diving that into droplets we get .5 mg of CBD per droplet. 2 droplets equals 1mg of CBD oil that you can calculate based on the weight of your pet.

You can increase your dog's dosage up to 2-3 times the amount if you are not seeing any results.
