Pet Parents Guide to CBD Dog Treats

Posted by Erica DeLoach on

What is the best way to give my pet CBD?

CBD treats are one of the most popular, easiest ways people can give their pets hemp help.

With more research expanding our knowledge of CBD, cannabinoids, hemp, and the endocannabinoid system, it makes sense why we choose to share with furry friends.

From pain to stress to well-being, there are a plethora of reasons we look to hemp.

Like people, all pets are different and have personal preferences on how to take their CBD, whether it’s oil or treats. Since we love them so much, we want to make sure they get the best quality CBD - and enjoy it.

But where to start?

There are countless hemp companies to choose from in this growing industry, specifically when it comes to CBD treats for dogs. Many also have countless ingredients… some that are questionable to say the least.

Bailey’s CBD Treats for Dogs

Nothing made by Bailey’s is ever questionable.

Since most enjoy a good T-R-E-A-T, we combined our quality CBD-rich hemp extract with delicious, nutritious snacks.

Always third party lab-tested, all Bailey’s CBD products are made under the advisory and scrutiny of respected veterinarian, Dr. Robert J Silver, DVM. We create our products intentionally, committed to only the best for our best friends.

Not only do we care about our product ingredients, but we also want you to feel comfortable and safe in your knowledge of CBD for pets.

So welcome to the Bailey’s CBD dog treat guide for pet parents in need!

Bailey Breakdown: What are Bailey’s CBD Soft Chews?

Bailey’s soft chews are cold-pressed and never baked. This means they keep the abundance of naturally-occurring cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other therapeutic properties of hemp. We use USDA organic, single-sourced full-spectrum hemp extract from a small family hemp farm in Colorado who hand harvests their hemp with love.

Our soft chews are made with love too! All are available in a small/medium breed variation (3mg CBD per chew) and a large breed/extra strength variation (6mg CBD per chew).

Easy to chew, we currently have three options focused on wellness, calmness, and mobility. Each has a favorite wellness blend that works with the CBD and other plant compounds for maximum effect.

Wellness: Omega Hemp CBD Soft Chews

Winning the 2019 California Cannabis Awards CBD Product Of The Year award, our Bacon-Flavored Omega Hemp Soft Chews support your pup’s health, wellness, and joy.

These full-spectrum CBD treats contain omega-3 fatty acids, omega-6 fatty acids, and omega-9 fatty acids.

What are Omega Fatty Acids?

Omega fatty acids are dietary fats important for balanced nutrition and contribute to overall well-being. They include omegas 3, 6 & 9.

Endless studies and a quick Google search reveals SO MANY known benefits of omega fatty acids for both humans and pets, so it’s no wonder these are our best-selling product line!

Many scientists and health professionals today believe an imbalanced omega 6:3 ratio affects chronic inflammation. Excessive inflammation is a known health issue, both causing and worsening conditions.

Flaxseed Oil

Our omega-3-6-9 source is derived from the flax plant, generally grown for its seeds. Flaxseed is explored for its anti-inflammatory purposes and contains lignans, which are used for cardiovascular health and osteoporosis.

The seeds are ground into an oil that contains a full-spectrum profile of fatty acids.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Omega 3 is one of the most vital supplements our mammalian body requires for various systemic functions. One main reason why veterinarians and doctors alike recommend omega-3 fatty acids is their anti-inflammatory properties.

There are three types of omega-3s: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Our dogs’ bodies convert ALA into EPA and DHA.

Both omega 3 & 6 fatty acids support the body’s natural defenses, digestive health, and cell growth. Since our pet’s body cannot naturally produce most omega 3 & 6s on their own, a proper balance of omega 3 & 6s is important for their long-term health.

Omega 6 Fatty Acids

Involved in cell membrane structure and cellular function, omega-6s are essential for reproduction, growth, immune function, and skin & coat health.

The omega-6 fatty acid linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid for dogs. It does many things, including strengthening & hydrating the skin barrier. It contributes to preventing water loss and the loss of other body molecules, and it prevents microbes, allergens, & other similar substances from entering through the skin.

Linoleic acid also plays a role in heart health, insulin, and blood pressure.

Arachidonic acid is an important omega-6 fatty acid that dogs can produce in their bodies from precursors (cats, however, cannot produce it on their own). It plays a central part in inflammation, wound healing, and muscle growth.

Omega 9 Fatty Acids

Unlike many omega 3 & 6s, our pet’s body can turn other fats into omega-9s. Although it’s considered a non-essential fatty acid, research shows omega-9 helps aid immune function, support cholesterol, and eliminate artery plaque.

Calm: Calming CBD Yummies!

Does your doggo deal with separation anxiety, fear of loud noises, nearby fireworks, or general stress? True to their name, these calming peanut butter and banana chews are nothing short of yummy!

Many use Bailey’s Calming CBD Yummies! for travelling stress relief, separation anxiety support, hyperactive pups, decreasing aggression, helping pups sleep through the night, and overall calming support.

These 100% vegan CBD dog chews contain holistic and human-grade active ingredients: tryptophan, valerian root, chamomile, and passionflower. They act in combination with CBD to help promote relaxation in even the most stressed and anxious pups.

An essential amino acid obtained nutritionally, tryptophan is involved with creating the hormone serotonin. Elevated serotonin blood levels have shown to reduce behavioral disorders, like separation & travel anxiety.

Studies reveal serotonin supports sleep, pain management, nitrogen balance, wound healing, and bone health. They also found tryptophan helps other essential amino acids become more accessible, potentially helping overall mood and stress hormone production.

Along with dietary control of protein intake, many use tryptophan to help reduce dominance aggression and territorial aggression in dogs.

People and dogs alike often turn to tryptophan for insomnia, depression, and stress. It naturally occurs in certain foods and is taken in supplement form.

Valerian Root (Valeriana Officinalis)

Valerian root is an herbal supplement traditionally used by many people for sedation, insomnia relief, and reducing anxiety & stress. Some even use it to support seizure conditions.

Valerian increases the amount of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA prevents unwanted nervous system activity, and low GABA levels are linked to stress, anxiety, and poor sleep. Studies show it contains other antioxidants and acids that may have sleep-inducing and muscle-relaxing effects.

Many of these compounds may also limit excess brain activity in the amygdala, which processes fear & strong emotional stress responses.

A small percentage of consumers are stimulated by valerian. Like with any herb or supplement, it’s important to always consult a licensed veterinarian before trying anything new.

Chamomile (Matricaria Chamomilla)

Chamomile is an herb in the daisy flower family, commonly used in humans & dogs (in smaller amounts) for mild sedation, anxiety support, anti-inflammation, gastrointestinal disorders, and muscle relaxation.

It contains terpenes and flavonoids found in hemp, including bisabolol. Bisabolol is regularly explored for potential anti-fungal, antibacterial, antioxidant, and pain-relieving properties.

Passion Flower (Passiflora Incarnata)

A floral herb enjoyed for its flavor, passionflower is a popular choice when it comes to anxiety and sleeplessness.

Biochemical studies show passionflower contains natural flavonoids that strengthen the effectiveness of GABA brain receptors, which we know aids relaxation and stress relief.

Our gut creates most of the body’s serotonin, explaining why some experience stomachaches or gastrointestinal issues when anxious.

Passionflower raises levels of serotonin and dopamine, potentially increasing mood & temperament - and soothing the tummy. It’s been used for stomach ulcer alleviation, which can cause or be caused by stress.

Mobility: Hip & Joint CBD Soft Chews

Joint pain? Moving slow? We got your pup’s back (literally)!

Made with glucosamine, MSM, green lipped mussel, and naturally-occuring CBD, these tasty chicken-flavored soft chews are intended to help put a pep in your pup’s step.

Some reasons people choose Bailey’s Hip & Joint CBD Soft Chews:

  • Mobility support
  • Graceful aging for pets
  • Comfort for arthritic pets
  • Support for dogs predisposed to hip and joint conditions due to breed

Pets struggle with arthritis, chronic pain, and mobility like humans. Many dog breeds are highly predisposed to hip dysplasia, causing pain, joint wear, and joint degeneration.

These CBD dog chews are packed with ingredients to support your dog’s hip & joint function.

Glucosamine is a compound naturally found in the body that produces other chemicals vital for building tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and the thick fluid around joints.

Joints are cushioned by surrounding fluid and cartilage. In those with osteoarthritis, cartilage breaks down, causing joint friction, stiffness, and pain.

Glucosamine is used to alleviate and slow symptoms associated with osteoarthritis & hip dysplasia. It promotes proactive wellness, especially mobility health.

Chicken’s feet is an abundant source of glucosamine, which means the chicken flavor was a no-brainer!

MSM is a sulfur-containing compound found in plants, animals, and humans. An antioxidant, it flushes out the body’s waste & toxins, improving cell function. MSM also helps enhance other vitamins and supplements due to its detoxifying effects.

In supplement form, it’s used for reducing pain and inflammation, which can lead to less disease & healthier bodily function.

We added this plant-based ingredient to help reduce pressure in our pet’s cells and allow more nutrient absorption. Proper nutrient absorption allows the body to protect itself.

Green Lipped Mussel

A natural filter in seawater, green lipped mussels retain a multitude of essential nutrients, including ETA-rich omega 3 fatty acids. They contain amino acids for energy & immune system support, enzymes for gastrointestinal health, antioxidants for heart health, chondroitin for inflammation, and hyaluronic acid for joint health.

Green lipped mussels are packed with crucial vitamins & minerals like vitamin C and E, selenium, manganese, zinc, iodine, copper, and more. Many of these compounds are also important for thyroid health, which directly affects joint & mobility function.

How does CBD work with omegas and other compounds?

CBD is already a popular choice for anti-inflammation, working to promote homeostasis (inner balance at a systemic level) within the body by engaging with our endocannabinoid system.

The Entourage Effect is when compounds interact, enhance, and amplify each other’s individual effects. This synergy is well-known with hemp. Cannabinoids like CBD, CBN, and CBG work together with terpenes, flavonoids, and more to make the other stronger.

Even though this applies to compounds within one plant, it also applies to those found in different sources. Hemp compounds can meet compounds like omega fatty acids, glucosamine, MSM, and green lipped mussel - and work together to be their best selves.

We combined the synergy of CBD-rich hemp with quality compounds to create an even more powerful synergy for our CBD dog treats. Mixed with all with your dog’s favorite flavors!

Whether looking for help with your dog’s overall health, stress, mobility, or pain, Bailey’s CBD has plenty of CBD soft chews to choose from.

All are part of our commitment to a balanced, happy, and healthy pet lifestyle.
